(1) Jawaban yang lemah lembut meredakan kegeraman, tetapi perkataan yang pedas membangkitkan marah.
(1) 부드러운 대답은 화를 가라앉히지만, 과격한 말은 노를 일으킨다.
(1) {Contrast the Upright and the Wicked}A soft and gentle and thoughtful answer turns away wrath, But harsh and painful and careless words stir up anger.
(2) Lidah orang bijak mengeluarkan pengetahuan, tetapi mulut orang bebal mencurahkan kebodohan.
(2) 지혜 있는 자의 혀는 지식을 전달하지만, 어리석은 자의 입은 미련을 토해 낸다.
(2) The tongue of the wise speaks knowledge that is pleasing and acceptable, But the [babbling] mouth of fools spouts folly.
(3) Mata TUHAN ada di segala tempat, mengawasi orang jahat dan orang baik.
(3) 여호와의 눈은 미치지 않는 곳이 없어, 악인이나 선인 모두를 보고 계신다.
(3) The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Watching the evil and the good [in all their endeavors].
(4) Lidah lembut adalah pohon kehidupan, tetapi lidah curang melukai hati.
(4) 온화한 말은 생명나무와 같지만, 잔인한 말은 마음을 상하게 한다.
(4) A soothing tongue [speaking words that build up and encourage] is a tree of life, But a perversive tongue [speaking words that overwhelm and depress] crushes the spirit.
(5) Orang bodoh menolak didikan ayahnya, tetapi siapa mengindahkan teguran adalah bijak.
(5) 미련한 사람은 자기 아버지의 징계를 업신여기나, 책망을 듣는 자는 슬기롭다.
(5) A [flippant, arrogant] fool rejects his father's instruction and correction, But he who [is willing to learn and] regards and keeps in mind a reprimand acquires good sense.
(6) Di rumah orang benar ada banyak harta benda, tetapi penghasilan orang fasik membawa kerusakan.
(6) 의인의 집에는 많은 재물이 있지만, 악인의 소득은 오히려 괴로울 뿐이다.
(6) Great and priceless treasure is in the house of the [consistently] righteous one [who seeks godly instruction and grows in wisdom], But trouble is in the income of the wicked one [who rejects the laws of God].
(7) Bibir orang bijak menaburkan pengetahuan, tetapi hati orang bebal tidak jujur.
(7) 지혜로운 자의 입술은 지식을 전파하나, 어리석은 자의 마음은 그렇지 않다.
(7) The lips of the wise spread knowledge [sifting it as chaff from the grain]; But the hearts of [shortsighted] fools are not so.
(8) Korban orang fasik adalah kekejian bagi TUHAN, tetapi doa orang jujur dikenan-Nya.
(8) 악인의 제사는 여호와께서 미워하시지만, 정직한 자의 기도는 기뻐하신다.
(8) The sacrifice of the wicked is hateful and exceedingly offensive to the LORD, But the prayer of the upright is His delight!
(9) Jalan orang fasik adalah kekejian bagi TUHAN, tetapi siapa mengejar kebenaran, dikasihi-Nya.
(9) 악인의 길은 여호와께서 미워하시나, 의를 따라가는 자는 기뻐하신다.
(9) The way [of life] of the wicked is hateful and exceedingly offensive to the LORD, But He loves one who pursues righteousness [personal integrity, moral courage and honorable character].
(10) Didikan yang keras adalah bagi orang yang meninggalkan jalan yang benar, dan siapa benci kepada teguran akan mati.
(10) 바른 길에서 떠나는 자는 엄중한 처벌을 받고, 책망을 싫어하는 자는 죽는다.
(10) There is severe discipline for him who turns from the way [of righteousness]; And he who hates correction will die.
(11) Dunia orang mati dan kebinasaan terbuka di hadapan TUHAN, lebih-lebih hati anak manusia!
(11) 무덤과 사망도 여호와 앞에는 환히 드러난다. 하물며 여호와께서 사람의 마음을 어찌 모르시겠는가?
(11) Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead) and Abaddon (the abyss, the place of eternal punishment) lie open before the LORD— How much more the hearts and inner motives of the children of men.
(12) Si pencemooh tidak suka ditegur orang; ia tidak mau pergi kepada orang bijak.
(12) 거만한 사람은 책망을 싫어하여, 지혜로운 사람에게 가지 않는다.
(12) A scoffer [unlike a wise man] resents one who rebukes him and tries to teach him; Nor will he go to the wise [for counsel and instruction].
(13) Hati yang gembira membuat muka berseri-seri, tetapi kepedihan hati mematahkan semangat.
(13) 마음이 즐거우면 얼굴이 환하지만, 마음의 근심은 영혼을 상하게 한다.
(13) A heart full of joy and goodness makes a cheerful face, But when a heart is full of sadness the spirit is crushed.
(14) Hati orang berpengertian mencari pengetahuan, tetapi mulut orang bebal sibuk dengan kebodohan.
(14) 슬기로운 마음은 지식을 추구하나, 어리석은 자들의 입은 미련을 먹고 산다.
(14) The mind of the intelligent and discerning seeks knowledge and eagerly inquires after it, But the mouth of the [stubborn] fool feeds on foolishness.
(15) Hari orang berkesusahan buruk semuanya, tetapi orang yang gembira hatinya selalu berpesta.
(15) 고통당하는 자의 나날은 비참하나, 마음이 즐거운 자는 늘 축제를 연다.
(15) All the days of the afflicted are bad, But a glad heart has a continual feast [regardless of the circumstances].
(16) Lebih baik sedikit barang dengan disertai takut akan TUHAN dari pada banyak harta dengan disertai kecemasan.
(16) 재물이 없어도 여호와를 모신 삶이, 많은 재산을 갖고 있으면서 문제가 많은 것보다 낫다.
(16) Better is a little with the [reverent, worshipful] fear of the LORD Than great treasure and trouble with it.
(17) Lebih baik sepiring sayur dengan kasih dari pada lembu tambun dengan kebencian.
(17) 채소만 먹어도 서로 사랑하는 것이, 쇠고기로 잔치하면서 싸우는 것보다 낫다.
(17) Better is a dinner of vegetables and herbs where love is present Than a fattened ox served with hatred.
(18) Si pemarah membangkitkan pertengkaran, tetapi orang yang sabar memadamkan perbantahan.
(18) 성미가 급한 사람은 다툼을 일으키나, 참는 사람은 싸움을 그치게 한다.
(18) A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, But he who is slow to anger and patient calms disputes.
(19) Jalan si pemalas seperti pagar duri, tetapi jalan orang jujur adalah rata.
(19) 게으른 사람의 길은 가시밭이나, 정직한 사람의 길은 넓고 평탄한 길이다.
(19) The way of the lazy is like a hedge of thorns [it pricks, lacerates, and entangles him], But the way [of life] of the upright is smooth and open like a highway.
(20) Anak yang bijak menggembirakan ayahnya, tetapi orang yang bebal menghina ibunya.
(20) 지혜로운 아들은 아버지를 기쁘게 하나, 어리석은 사람은 자기 어머니를 멸시한다.
(20) A wise son makes a father glad, But a foolish man despises his mother.
(21) Kebodohan adalah kesukaan bagi yang tidak berakal budi, tetapi orang yang pandai berjalan lurus.
(21) 지혜롭지 못한 사람은 미련을 즐기지만, 명철한 사람은 바른 길을 걷는다.
(21) Foolishness is joy to him who is without heart and lacks [intelligent, common] sense, But a man of understanding walks uprightly [making his course straight].
(22) Rancangan gagal kalau tidak ada pertimbangan, tetapi terlaksana kalau penasihat banyak.
(22) 의논이 없으면 계획이 실패하고, 조언자들이 많으면 성공한다.
(22) Without consultation and wise advice, plans are frustrated, But with many counselors they are established and succeed.
(23) Seseorang bersukacita karena jawaban yang diberikannya, dan alangkah baiknya perkataan yang tepat pada waktunya!
(23) 사람은 대답하는 말을 듣고 기쁨을 얻나니, 적절하게 맞는 말을 하는 것이 얼마나 값진 일인가?
(23) A man has joy in giving an appropriate answer, And how good and delightful is a word spoken at the right moment—how good it is!
(24) Jalan kehidupan orang berakal budi menuju ke atas, supaya ia menjauhi dunia orang mati di bawah.
(24) 지혜로운 자의 길은 위로 생명 길과 연결되어, 아래 무덤으로 떨어지는 것을 막아 준다.
(24) The [chosen] path of life leads upward for the wise, That he may keep away from Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead) below.
(25) Rumah orang congkak dirombak TUHAN, tetapi batas tanah seorang janda dijadikan-Nya tetap.
(25) 여호와께서는 교만한 사람의 집은 허시지만, 과부의 밭은 지켜 주신다.
(25) The LORD will tear down the house of the proud and arrogant (self-righteous), But He will establish and protect the boundaries [of the land] of the [godly] widow.
(26) Rancangan orang jahat adalah kekejian bagi TUHAN, tetapi perkataan yang ramah itu suci.
(26) 악인의 생각은 여호와께서 미워하시나, 선한 자의 생각은 기뻐하신다.
(26) Evil plans and thoughts of the wicked are exceedingly vile and offensive to the LORD, But pure words are pleasant words to Him.
(27) Siapa loba akan keuntungan gelap, mengacaukan rumah tangganya, tetapi siapa membenci suap akan hidup.
(27) 탐욕을 부리는 자는 자기 가족에게 재앙을 가져오나, 뇌물을 미워하는 자는 형통할 것이다.
(27) He who profits unlawfully brings suffering to his own house, But he who hates bribes [and does not receive nor pay them] will live.
(28) Hati orang benar menimbang-nimbang jawabannya, tetapi mulut orang fasik mencurahkan hal-hal yang jahat.
(28) 의인은 신중히 대답하나, 악인의 입은 악을 마구 토해 낸다.
(28) The heart of the righteous thinks carefully about how to answer [in a wise and appropriate and timely way], But the [babbling] mouth of the wicked pours out malevolent things.
(29) TUHAN itu jauh dari pada orang fasik, tetapi doa orang benar didengar-Nya.
(29) 여호와께서는 악인을 멀리하시나, 의인의 기도는 들으신다.
(29) The LORD is far from the wicked [and distances Himself from them], But He hears the prayer of the [consistently] righteous [that is, those with spiritual integrity and moral courage].
(30) Mata yang bersinar-sinar menyukakan hati, dan kabar yang baik menyegarkan tulang.
(30) 마음의 기쁨은 눈을 통해 빛나고, 좋은 소식은 뼈를 건강하게 만들어 준다.
(30) The light of the eyes rejoices the hearts of others, And good news puts fat on the bones.
(31) Orang yang mengarahkan telinga kepada teguran yang membawa kepada kehidupan akan tinggal di tengah-tengah orang bijak.
(31) 생명을 주는 책망에 귀기울이는 자는 지혜로운 자들 가운데 살 것이다.
(31) The ear that listens to and learns from the life-giving rebuke (reprimand, censure) Will remain among the wise.
(32) Siapa mengabaikan didikan membuang dirinya sendiri, tetapi siapa mendengarkan teguran, memperoleh akal budi.
(32) 훈계를 무시하는 사람은 자기를 멸시하는 자이지만, 책망을 듣는 자는 총명을 얻는다.
(32) He who neglects and ignores instruction and discipline despises himself, But he who learns from rebuke acquires understanding [and grows in wisdom].
(33) Takut akan TUHAN adalah didikan yang mendatangkan hikmat, dan kerendahan hati mendahului kehormatan.
(33) 여호와를 경외하는 것은 사람에게 지혜를 준다. 겸손하면 영예가 뒤따른다.
(33) The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the instruction for wisdom [its starting point and its essence]; And before honor comes humility.
