(1) Orang yang menyendiri, mencari keinginannya, amarahnya meledak terhadap setiap pertimbangan.
(1) 이기적인 자는 자기만 생각하고, 남의 도움을 무시한다.
(1) {Contrast the Upright and the Wicked}He who [willfully] separates himself [from God and man] seeks his own desire, He quarrels against all sound wisdom.
(2) Orang bebal tidak suka kepada pengertian, hanya suka membeberkan isi hatinya.
(2) 어리석은 자는 명철에 도무지 관심이 없고, 자기 생각만 떠벌린다.
(2) A [closed-minded] fool does not delight in understanding, But only in revealing his personal opinions [unwittingly displaying his self-indulgence and his stupidity].
(3) Bila kefasikan datang, datanglah juga penghinaan dan cela disertai cemooh.
(3) 죄를 지으면 멸시를 당하고, 수치와 불명예까지 따라온다.
(3) When the wicked man comes [to the depth of evil], contempt [of all that is pure and good] also comes, And with inner baseness (dishonor) comes outer shame (scorn).
(4) Perkataan mulut orang adalah seperti air yang dalam, tetapi sumber hikmat adalah seperti batang air yang mengalir.
(4) 사람의 말은 깊은 물과 같고, 지혜의 샘은 쉬지 않고 흐르는 시내와 같다.
(4) The words of a man's mouth are like deep waters [copious and difficult to fathom]; The fountain of [mature, godly] wisdom is like a bubbling stream [sparkling, fresh, pure, and life-giving].
(5) Tidak baik berpihak kepada orang fasik dengan menolak orang benar dalam pengadilan.
(5) 범죄자 편을 들어서, 무고한 사람을 죄 있다고 재판하는 것은 옳지 않다.
(5) To show respect to the wicked person is not good, Nor to push aside and deprive the righteous of justice.
(6) Bibir orang bebal menimbulkan perbantahan, dan mulutnya berseru meminta pukulan.
(6) 어리석은 자의 입술은 분쟁을 일으키고, 그의 입은 매를 자초한다.
(6) A fool's lips bring contention and strife, And his mouth invites a beating.
(7) Orang bebal dibinasakan oleh mulutnya, bibirnya adalah jerat bagi nyawanya.
(7) 어리석은 자의 입은 그를 파멸로 이끌고, 그의 입술은 자기에게 올무가 된다.
(7) A fool's mouth is his ruin, And his lips are the snare of his soul.
(8) Perkataan pemfitnah seperti sedap-sedapan, yang masuk ke lubuk hati.
(8) 고자질은 맛있는 음식 같아서 마음 깊이 남는다.
(8) The words of a whisperer (gossip) are like dainty morsels [to be greedily eaten]; They go down into the innermost chambers of the body [to be remembered and mused upon].
(9) Orang yang bermalas-malas dalam pekerjaannya sudah menjadi saudara dari si perusak.
(9) 자기 일을 게을리하는 자는 멸망하는 자의 형제이다.
(9) He who is careless in his work Is a brother to him who destroys.
(10) Nama TUHAN adalah menara yang kuat, ke sanalah orang benar berlari dan ia menjadi selamat.
(10) 여호와의 이름은 강력한 망대 같아서 그리로 피하는 의인은 안전하다.
(10) The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runs to it and is safe and set on high [far above evil].
(11) Kota yang kuat bagi orang kaya ialah hartanya dan seperti tembok yang tinggi menurut anggapannya.
(11) 부자들의 재물은 자기들에게 요새와 같다. 저들은 재물이 자기들을 보호해 줄 거라고 믿는다.
(11) The rich man's wealth is his strong city, And like a high wall [of protection] in his own imagination and conceit.
(12) Tinggi hati mendahului kehancuran, tetapi kerendahan hati mendahului kehormatan.
(12) 마음의 교만은 멸망의 선봉장이요, 겸손은 존귀의 앞잡이다.
(12) Before disaster the heart of a man is haughty and filled with self-importance, But humility comes before honor.
(13) Jikalau seseorang memberi jawab sebelum mendengar, itulah kebodohan dan kecelaannya.
(13) 듣기 전에 대답하는 자는 미련하여 수치를 당한다.
(13) He who answers before he hears [the facts]— It is folly and shame to him.
(14) Orang yang bersemangat dapat menanggung penderitaannya, tetapi siapa akan memulihkan semangat yang patah?
(14) 사람의 영이 병을 이기게 하는데, 영이 상하면 어떻게 할 수 있을까?
(14) The spirit of a man sustains him in sickness, But as for a broken spirit, who can bear it?
(15) Hati orang berpengertian memperoleh pengetahuan, dan telinga orang bijak menuntut pengetahuan.
(15) 명철한 자의 마음은 지식을 얻고, 지혜자의 귀는 지식을 찾는다.
(15) The mind of the prudent [always] acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise [always] seeks knowledge.
(16) Hadiah memberi keluasan kepada orang, membawa dia menghadap orang-orang besar.
(16) 선물을 주는 자는 그 앞길이 열려서, 중요한 사람 앞으로 나아가게 될 것이다.
(16) A man's gift [given in love or courtesy] makes room for him And brings him before great men.
(17) Pembicara pertama dalam suatu pertikaian nampaknya benar, lalu datanglah orang lain dan menyelidiki perkaranya.
(17) 재판에서 원고의 말이 옳은 듯해도, 피고가 오면 사정이 달라진다.
(17) The first one to plead his case seems right, Until another comes and cross-examines him.
(18) Undian mengakhiri pertengkaran, dan menyelesaikan persoalan antara orang-orang berkuasa.
(18) 제비를 뽑아 분쟁을 해결하고, 서로 싸우는 둘 사이를 판결할 수 있다.
(18) To cast lots puts an end to quarrels And decides between powerful contenders.
(19) Saudara yang dikhianati lebih sulit dihampiri dari pada kota yang kuat, dan pertengkaran adalah seperti palang gapura sebuah puri.
(19) 모욕을 당한 형제의 마음은 요새보다 정복하기 어렵고, 다툼은 요새의 빗장같이 마음을 닫게 한다.
(19) A brother offended is harder to win over than a fortified city, And contentions [separating families] are like the bars of a castle.
(20) Perut orang dikenyangkan oleh hasil mulutnya, ia dikenyangkan oleh hasil bibirnya.
(20) 말은 음식이 배를 채워 주는 것처럼 그 영혼을 만족시킨다. 곧 입술의 바른 말이 사람을 만족시킨다.
(20) A man's stomach will be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; He will be satisfied with the consequence of his words.
(21) Hidup dan mati dikuasai lidah, siapa suka menggemakannya, akan memakan buahnya.
(21) 혀는 살리기도, 죽이기도 하는 힘을 가졌으니, 혀를 놀리기 좋아하는 자는 그 대가를 받을 것이다.
(21) Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.
(22) Siapa mendapat isteri, mendapat sesuatu yang baik, dan ia dikenan TUHAN.
(22) 아내를 찾은 자는 행복을 찾은 자요, 여호와께 은총을 입은 자이다.
(22) He who finds a [true and faithful] wife finds a good thing And obtains favor and approval from the LORD.
(23) Orang miskin berbicara dengan memohon-mohon, tetapi orang kaya menjawab dengan kasar.
(23) 가난한 자는 긍휼을 구하나, 부자는 거만하게 말할 뿐이다.
(23) The poor man pleads, But the rich man answers roughly.
(24) Ada teman yang mendatangkan kecelakaan, tetapi ada juga sahabat yang lebih karib dari pada seorang saudara.
(24) 친구인 척하는 자도 많지만, 어떤 친구는 형제보다 낫다.
(24) The man of too many friends [chosen indiscriminately] will be broken in pieces and come to ruin, But there is a [true, loving] friend who [is reliable and] sticks closer than a brother.
