(1) Lebih baik seorang miskin yang bersih kelakuannya dari pada seorang yang serong bibirnya lagi bebal.
(1) 흠없이 행하는 가난한 사람을 입술이 사악하고 어리석은 사람 에게 비길 것인가?
(1) {On Life and Conduct}Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity Than a [rich] man who is twisted in his speech and is a [shortsighted] fool.
(2) Tanpa pengetahuan kerajinanpun tidak baik; orang yang tergesa-gesa akan salah langkah.
(2) 지식 없는 열심은 위험하고, 조급히 일을 처리하면 그르친다.
(2) Also it is not good for a person to be without knowledge, And he who hurries with his feet [acting impulsively and proceeding without caution or analyzing the consequences] sins (misses the mark).
(3) Kebodohan menyesatkan jalan orang, lalu gusarlah hatinya terhadap TUHAN.
(3) 자기의 미련 때문에 망하고서도 마음으로 여호와를 원망한다.
(3) The foolishness of man undermines his way [ruining whatever he undertakes]; Then his heart is resentful and rages against the LORD [for, being a fool, he blames the LORD instead of himself].
(4) Kekayaan menambah banyak sahabat, tetapi orang miskin ditinggalkan sahabatnya.
(4) 부유하면 친구가 많지만, 가난한 사람의 친구는 그를 버린다.
(4) Wealth makes many friends, But a poor man is separated from his friend.
(5) Saksi dusta tidak akan luput dari hukuman, orang yang menyembur-nyemburkan kebohongan tidak akan terhindar.
(5) 거짓 증인은 처벌을 면치 못하고, 거짓말을 내뱉는 자 역시 벌을 피하기 어렵다.
(5) A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who breathes out lies will not escape.
(6) Banyak orang yang mengambil hati orang dermawan, setiap orang bersahabat dengan si pemberi.
(6) 너그러운 사람에게는 은혜를 구하는 자가 많고, 선물을 주는 자에게는 누구나 가까이 가려 한다.
(6) Many will seek the favor of a generous and noble man, And everyone is a friend to him who gives gifts.
(7) Orang miskin dibenci oleh semua saudaranya, apalagi sahabat-sahabatnya, mereka menjauhi dia. Ia mengejar mereka, memanggil mereka tetapi mereka tidak ada lagi.
(7) 가난하면 친척들도 멀리하니 친구들이야 말할 것도 없다. 사정해도 친구들은 달아날 뿐이다.
(7) All the brothers of a poor man hate him; How much more do his friends abandon him! He pursues them with words, but they are gone.
(8) Siapa memperoleh akal budi, mengasihi dirinya; siapa berpegang pada pengertian, mendapat kebahagiaan.
(8) 지혜를 얻는 자는 자기를 사랑하는 자이며, 명철을 귀히 여기는 자는 형통할 것이다.
(8) He who gains wisdom and good sense loves (preserves) his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good and prosper.
(9) Saksi dusta tidak akan luput dari hukuman, orang yang menyembur-nyemburkan kebohongan akan binasa.
(9) 거짓 증인은 처벌을 면치 못하고, 거짓말을 내뱉는 자도 망할 것이다.
(9) A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who breathes lies will perish.
(10) Kemewahan tidak layak bagi orang bebal, apalagi bagi seorang budak memerintah pembesar.
(10) 어리석은 자의 사치가 옳지 못하듯, 종이 주인을 다스리는 것도 옳지 못하다.
(10) Luxury is not fitting for a fool; Much less for a slave to rule over princes.
(11) Akal budi membuat seseorang panjang sabar dan orang itu dipuji karena memaafkan pelanggaran.
(11) 슬기로운 사람은 쉽게 화내지 않으며, 허물을 덮어 주어 자신의 영광으로 삼는다.
(11) Good sense and discretion make a man slow to anger, And it is his honor and glory to overlook a transgression or an offense [without seeking revenge and harboring resentment].
(12) Kemarahan raja adalah seperti raung singa muda, tetapi kebaikannya seperti embun yang turun ke atas rumput.
(12) 왕의 노함은 사자의 부르짖음 같고, 그의 은총은 풀에 내리는 이슬 같다.
(12) The king's wrath terrifies like the roaring of a lion, But his favor is as [refreshing and nourishing as] dew on the grass.
(13) Anak bebal adalah bencana bagi ayahnya, dan pertengkaran seorang isteri adalah seperti tiris yang tidak henti-hentinya menitik.
(13) 어리석은 아들은 그 부친을 망하게 하고, 다투는 아내는 계속 떨어지는 빗방울과 같다.
(13) A foolish (ungodly) son is destruction to his father, And the contentions of a [quarrelsome] wife are like a constant dripping [of water].
(14) Rumah dan harta adalah warisan nenek moyang, tetapi isteri yang berakal budi adalah karunia TUHAN.
(14) 집과 재물은 부모에게서 상속받지만, 슬기로운 아내는 여호와께서 주신다.
(14) House and wealth are the inheritance from fathers, But a wise, understanding, and sensible wife is [a gift and blessing] from the LORD.
(15) Kemalasan mendatangkan tidur nyenyak, dan orang yang lamban akan menderita lapar.
(15) 게으름은 사람을 깊은 잠에 빠지게 하고, 게으른 사람은 굶주린다.
(15) Laziness casts one into a deep sleep [unmindful of lost opportunity], And the idle person will suffer hunger.
(16) Siapa berpegang pada perintah, memelihara nyawanya, tetapi siapa menghina firman, akan mati.
(16) 교훈에 순종하는 사람은 자기 생명을 지키나, 말씀대로 살지 않는 사람은 죽을 것이다.
(16) He who keeps and obeys the commandment [of the LORD] keeps (guards) his own life, But he who is careless of his ways and conduct will die.
(17) Siapa menaruh belas kasihan kepada orang yang lemah, memiutangi TUHAN, yang akan membalas perbuatannya itu.
(17) 가난한 자에게 베푸는 일은 여호와께 빌려 드리는 것이니, 그분이 후하게 보상하신다.
(17) He who is gracious and lends a hand to the poor lends to the LORD, And the LORD will repay him for his good deed.
(18) Hajarlah anakmu selama ada harapan, tetapi jangan engkau menginginkan kematiannya.
(18) 아직 희망이 있을 때에 자식을 징계하여라. 그가 망할 때까지 내버려 두지 마라.
(18) Discipline and teach your son while there is hope, And do not [indulge your anger or resentment by imposing inappropriate punishment nor] desire his destruction.
(19) Orang yang sangat cepat marah akan kena denda, karena jika engkau hendak menolongnya, engkau hanya menambah marahnya.
(19) 성미가 조급한 사람은 화를 자초하여, 건져 주어도 또 같은 잘못을 저지른다.
(19) A man of great anger will bear the penalty [for his quick temper and lack of self-control]; For if you rescue him [and do not let him learn from the consequences of his action], you will only have to rescue him over and over again.
(20) Dengarkanlah nasihat dan terimalah didikan, supaya engkau menjadi bijak di masa depan.
(20) 조언을 듣고 교훈에 순종하여라. 그러면 마침내 지혜롭게 될 것이다.
(20) Listen to counsel, receive instruction, and accept correction, That you may be wise in the time to come.
(21) Banyaklah rancangan di hati manusia, tetapi keputusan Tuhanlah yang terlaksana.
(21) 사람의 마음에는 많은 계획이 있지만, 결국 여호와의 뜻대로 성취된다.
(21) Many plans are in a man's mind, But it is the Lord's purpose for him that will stand (be carried out).
(22) Sifat yang diinginkan pada seseorang ialah kesetiaannya; lebih baik orang miskin dari pada seorang pembohong.
(22) 사람이 바라는 것은 변함 없는 사랑이다. 거짓말을 하는 것보다는 가난함이 낫다.
(22) That which is desirable in a man is his loyalty and unfailing love, But it is better to be a poor man than a [wealthy] liar.
(23) Takut akan Allah mendatangkan hidup, maka orang bermalam dengan puas, tanpa ditimpa malapetaka.
(23) 여호와를 경외하면 형통하고, 만족감을 얻으며, 재난을 피한다.
(23) The fear of the LORD leads to life, So that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil.
(24) Si pemalas mencelup tangannya ke dalam pinggan, tetapi tidak juga mengembalikannya ke mulut.
(24) 게으른 사람은 손을 밥그릇에 얹고도, 자기 입에 집어 넣기를 귀찮아한다.
(24) The lazy man buries his hand in the [food] dish, But will not even bring it to his mouth again.
(25) Jikalau si pencemooh kaupukul, barulah orang yang tak berpengalaman menjadi bijak, jikalau orang yang berpengertian ditegur, ia menjadi insaf.
(25) 거만한 자를 매질하여라. 그러면 미련한 자가 깨닫게 될 것이다. 명철한 자를 책망하여라. 그러면 그가 지식을 얻을 것이다.
(25) Strike a scoffer [for refusing to learn], and the naive may [be warned and] become prudent; Reprimand one who has understanding and a teachable spirit, and he will gain knowledge and insight.
(26) Anak yang menganiaya ayahnya atau mengusir ibunya, memburukkan dan memalukan diri.
(26) 자기 아버지를 구박하고 자기 어머니를 쫓아 내는 자식은, 수치와 부끄러움의 자식이다.
(26) He who assaults his father and chases away his mother Is a son who brings shame and disgrace.
(27) Hai anakku, jangan lagi mendengarkan didikan, kalau engkau menyimpang juga dari perkataan-perkataan yang memberi pengetahuan.
(27) 내 아들아, 교훈을 듣지 않으면, 결국 너는 지식의 말씀에서 벗어날 것이다.
(27) Cease listening, my son, to instruction and discipline And you will stray from the words of knowledge.
(28) Saksi yang tidak berguna mencemoohkan hukum dan mulut orang fasik menelan dusta.
(28) 악한 증인은 법을 비웃고, 악인의 입은 죄를 물 마시듯 한다.
(28) A wicked and worthless witness mocks justice, And the mouth of the wicked spreads iniquity.
(29) Hukuman bagi si pencemooh tersedia dan pukulan bagi punggung orang bebal.
(29) 징계는 거만한 자들을 위한 것이요, 매는 어리석은 자들에게 필요한 것이다.
(29) Judgments are prepared for scoffers, And beatings for the backs of [thickheaded] fools.
