(1) Seperti salju di musim panas dan hujan pada waktu panen, demikian kehormatanpun tidak layak bagi orang bebal.
(1) 여름에 오는 눈이나 추수 때의 비처럼, 어리석은 자에게 영예는 적절하지 않다.
(1) {Similitudes, Instructions}Like snow in summer and like rain in harvest, So honor is not fitting for a [shortsighted] fool.
(2) Seperti burung pipit mengirap dan burung layang-layang terbang, demikianlah kutuk tanpa alasan tidak akan kena.
(2) 근거 없는 저주는 참새가 퍼덕거리고, 제비가 쏜살같이 날아가는 것처럼 상대방에게 미치지 못한다.
(2) Like the sparrow in her wandering, like the swallow in her flying, So the curse without cause does not come and alight [on the undeserving].
(3) Cemeti adalah untuk kuda, kekang untuk keledai, dan pentung untuk punggung orang bebal.
(3) 말에게는 채찍을, 나귀에게는 재갈을, 어리석은 자의 등에는 몽둥이를 휘둘러야 한다.
(3) A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, And a rod for the backs of fools [who refuse to learn].
(4) Jangan menjawab orang bebal menurut kebodohannya, supaya jangan engkau sendiri menjadi sama dengan dia.
(4) 어리석은 자의 어리석음을 따라 대답하지 마라. 그렇지 않으면 너도 그와 같이 될 것이다.
(4) Do not answer [nor pretend to agree with the frivolous comments of] a [closed-minded] fool according to his folly, Otherwise you, even you, will be like him.
(5) Jawablah orang bebal menurut kebodohannya, supaya jangan ia menganggap dirinya bijak.
(5) 어리석은 자에게는 그의 어리석음에 따라 대답하여라. 스스로 지혜로운 체할까 두렵다.
(5) Answer [and correct the erroneous concepts of] a fool according to his folly, Otherwise he will be wise in his own eyes [if he thinks you agree with him].
(6) Siapa mengirim pesan dengan perantaraan orang bebal mematahkan kakinya sendiri dan meminum kecelakaan.
(6) 어리석은 자를 시켜 편지를 전하는 것은 자기 발을 자르고, 극약을 마시는 것과 같다.
(6) He who sends a message by the hand of a fool Cuts off his own feet (sabotages himself) and drinks the violence [it brings on himself as a consequence].
(7) Amsal di mulut orang bebal adalah seperti kaki yang terkulai dari pada orang yang lumpuh.
(7) 어리석은 자들이 잠언을 말하는 것은 다리 저는 사람의 다리와 같다.
(7) Like the legs which are useless to the lame, So is a proverb in the mouth of a fool [who cannot learn from its wisdom].
(8) Seperti orang menaruh batu di umban, demikianlah orang yang memberi hormat kepada orang bebal.
(8) 어리석은 자에게 영예를 주는 것은 마치 물매에 돌을 매다는 것과 같다.
(8) Like one who [absurdly] binds a stone in a sling [making it impossible to throw], So is he who [absurdly] gives honor to a fool.
(9) Amsal di mulut orang bebal adalah seperti duri yang menusuk tangan pemabuk.
(9) 어리석은 자들이 잠언을 말하는 것은 술 취한 자가 가시나무를 휘두르는 격이다.
(9) Like a thorn that goes [without being felt] into the hand of a drunken man, So is a proverb in the mouth of a fool [who remains unaffected by its wisdom].
(10) Siapa mempekerjakan orang bebal dan orang-orang yang lewat adalah seperti pemanah yang melukai tiap orang.
(10) 미련한 자를 품꾼으로 부리는 자는 활을 마구 쏘는 궁수와 같다.
(10) Like a [careless] archer who [shoots arrows wildly and] wounds everyone, So is he who hires a fool or those who [by chance just] pass by.
(11) Seperti anjing kembali ke muntahnya, demikianlah orang bebal yang mengulangi kebodohannya.
(11) 개가 그 토한 것을 다시 먹듯, 어리석은 자는 자기 미련을 되풀이한다.
(11) Like a dog that returns to his vomit Is a fool who repeats his foolishness.
(12) Jika engkau melihat orang yang menganggap dirinya bijak, harapan bagi orang bebal lebih banyak dari pada bagi orang itu.
(12) 스스로 지혜로운 체하는 사람을 보았는가? 차라리 그보다는 미련한 자에게 희망이 있다.
(12) Do you see a man [who is unteachable and] wise in his own eyes and full of self-conceit? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
(13) Berkatalah si pemalas: "Ada singa di jalan! Ada singa di lorong!"
(13) 게으른 자는 “사나운 사자가 길에 있으니, 일하러 가지 않겠다”고 말한다.
(13) The lazy person [who is self-indulgent and relies on lame excuses] says, "There is a lion in the road! A lion is in the open square [and if I go outside to work I will be killed]!"
(14) Seperti pintu berputar pada engselnya, demikianlah si pemalas di tempat tidurnya.
(14) 문짝이 돌쩌귀를 따라 돌듯, 게으름뱅이는 침대에서만 뒹군다.
(14) As the door turns on its hinges, So does the lazy person on his bed [never getting out of it].
(15) Si pemalas mencelupkan tangannya ke dalam pinggan, tetapi ia terlalu lelah untuk mengembalikannya ke mulutnya.
(15) 게으른 자는 자기 손을 밥그릇에 갖다 대고도, 입에 넣을 생각을 안 한다.
(15) The lazy person buries his hand in the dish [losing opportunity after opportunity]; It wearies him to bring it back to his mouth.
(16) Si pemalas menganggap dirinya lebih bijak dari pada tujuh orang yang menjawab dengan bijaksana.
(16) 게으른 자는 ‘나는 슬기롭게 대답을 전하는 일곱 명보다 낫다’라고 스스로 생각한다.
(16) The lazy person is wiser in his own eyes Than seven [sensible] men who can give a discreet answer.
(17) Orang yang ikut campur dalam pertengkaran orang lain adalah seperti orang yang menangkap telinga anjing yang berlalu.
(17) 자기와 상관도 없는 다툼에 참견하는 행인은 개의 귀를 잡아당기는 사람과 같다.
(17) Like one who grabs a dog by the ears [and is likely to be bitten] Is he who, passing by, stops to meddle with a dispute that is none of his business.
(18) Seperti orang gila menembakkan panah api, panah dan maut,
(18) 횃불을 던지고, 독이 묻은 화살을 쏘아대는 미친 사람과 같이
(18) Like a madman who throws Firebrands, arrows, and death,
(19) demikianlah orang yang memperdaya sesamanya dan berkata: "Aku hanya bersenda gurau."
(19) 지혜 없는 사람은 자기 이웃을 속이고도 “그저 장난삼아 했을 뿐이야!”라고 말한다.
(19) So is the man who deceives his neighbor (acquaintance, friend) And then says, "Was I not joking?"
(20) Bila kayu habis, padamlah api; bila pemfitnah tak ada, redalah pertengkaran.
(20) 나무가 없으면 불이 꺼지듯, 험담꾼이 없으면 다툼도 그친다.
(20) For lack of wood the fire goes out, And where there is no whisperer [who gossips], contention quiets down.
(21) Seperti arang untuk bara menyala dan kayu untuk api, demikianlah orang yang suka bertengkar untuk panasnya perbantahan.
(21) 숯불에 숯을 더하고 불에 나무를 더하듯, 싸움꾼은 싸움에 부채질만 한다.
(21) Like charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to kindle strife.
(22) Seperti sedap-sedapan perkataan pemfitnah masuk ke lubuk hati.
(22) 고자질은 맛난 음식과 같아서, 뱃속 깊이 내려간다.
(22) The words of a whisperer (gossip) are like dainty morsels [to be greedily eaten]; They go down into the innermost chambers of the body [to be remembered and mused upon].
(23) Seperti pecahan periuk bersalutkan perak, demikianlah bibir manis dengan hati jahat.
(23) 마음은 악하면서 입술만 부드러운 사람은 유약을 바른 토기와 같다.
(23) Like a [common] clay vessel covered with the silver dross [making it appear silver when it has no real value] Are burning lips [murmuring manipulative words] and a wicked heart.
(24) Si pembenci berpura-pura dengan bibirnya, tetapi dalam hati dikandungnya tipu daya.
(24) 악의를 품은 사람은 입술로는 그럴싸하게 말하지만, 마음에는 독을 품고 있다.
(24) He who hates, disguises it with his lips, But he stores up deceit in his heart.
(25) Kalau ia ramah, janganlah percaya padanya, karena tujuh kekejian ada dalam hatinya.
(25) 그런 자가 듣기 좋은 말을 할지라도 믿지 마라. 일곱 가지 혐오스런 것들이 그 마음에 들어 있다.
(25) When he speaks graciously and kindly [to conceal his malice], do not trust him, For seven abominations are in his heart.
(26) Walaupun kebenciannya diselubungi tipu daya, kejahatannya akan nyata dalam jemaah.
(26) 그의 악의가 교묘하게 숨겨져 있다 해도, 그의 악한 생각이 회중 앞에서 드러날 것이다.
(26) Though his hatred covers itself with guile and deceit, His malevolence will be revealed openly before the assembly.
(27) Siapa menggali lobang akan jatuh ke dalamnya, dan siapa menggelindingkan batu, batu itu akan kembali menimpa dia.
(27) 함정을 파는 자는 자신이 그 곳에 빠질 것이요, 돌을 굴리는 자는 그 돌에 치일 것이다.
(27) Whoever digs a pit [for another man's feet] will fall into it, And he who rolls a stone [up a hill to do mischief], it will come back on him.
(28) Lidah dusta membenci korbannya, dan mulut licin mendatangkan kehancuran.
(28) 거짓말하는 혀는 상대를 미워하고, 아첨하는 입은 상대를 파멸로 이끈다.
(28) A lying tongue hates those it wounds and crushes, And a flattering mouth works ruin.
